About Dirt

A hard-hitting, emotional new series from New York Times bestselling author Cassia Leo.

Jack and I had everything. Then, in one brutal instant, the universe tilted on its side, discarding us into black nothingness.

Now, I have a cocky a**hole for a husband.

The only way we communicate anymore is when we’re fighting or f**king.

With nothing left to lose, I write Jack a goodbye letter and head for Portland, where I quickly meet a neighbor who helps me find a job.

My new neighbor—hot, tattooed ex-soldier Isaac Evans—is complicated. Nevertheless, we form a fast friendship, bonding over our mutual desire to create something beautiful from the wreckage of our lives.

But despite the distance between us, Jack and I are still trying to make things work—fighting and f**king dirtier than ever. And he doesn’t appreciate my new friendship with Isaac. Not one f**king bit.

This really read to me like a massive hate fuck fest diary between two people who needed space, divorce or massive counselling. It was like they were super high one paragraph, spewing hateful words the next, then immediately followed by screwing. Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Over and over.

It was like both characters wanted to make progress in their own ways, and it ended up making them grow apart instead of together. but neither could see that. and instead of compromising for each other, they'd lie and say they would. Then go behind the other person's back to break the promise they made. It was a cycle. and honestly, it got old quick.

This book started off so intriguing , but fizzled so quickly. Which is odd bc normally I like Cassia Leo books. this one just felt odd. forced. Then all the sudden there's a massive uprising at the end with a huge cliffhanger and it just didn't feel like it fit.

I started off really liking Jack. Pulling for him to be there for his wife. Slow his obsession and start supporting her. But it was like he escalated in the opposite direction. Throwing things against the wall and stuff. The worst part is when he did that, she wasn't even afraid. I'm sorry but that's not okay. Yes he was a prick when it came to her issues from their loss, but this was so much more than that. Manipulating her. lying. It just didn't fit with the picture of who we thought he was in the beginning.

Then we have isaac. I'm still not sure what his part was in this storyline other than jealousy and possibly a wedge. But he's not really present in much of the book. Honestly he's not very relevant either. I found it odd Jack has a co-worker hinting at wanting to sleep with him, and because Laurel made friends with her neighbor, she's automatically sleeping with him. I just.. these pieces don't fit. This story didn't flow. Laurel was constantly caving to Jack. Mad, give in, sex. Constantly. She gets another job, starts doing well, and quits because he asks her to?

I just have a lot of issues with this storyline and characters. It's just not what I expected. Fizzled quick and was very drawn out and messy. I know I'll read the next book bc I have to know how it ends.
