Indecent Proposal
Manwhore. That's what the board of directors-and the tabloids-thinks of billionaire bachelor Reese Crane. Ordinarily he couldn't care less, but his playboy past is preventing the board from naming him CEO of Crane Hotels. Nothing-and no one-will keep him from his life's legacy. They want a settled man to lead the company? Then that's exactly what he'll give them.
Merina Van Heusen will do anything to get her parents' funky boutique hotel back-even marry cold-as-ice-but-sexy-as-hell Reese Crane. It's a simple business contract-six months of marriage, absolute secrecy, and the Van Heusen is all hers again. But when sparks fly between them, their passion quickly moves from the boardroom to the bedroom. And soon Merina is living her worst nightmare: falling in love with her husband . . .
This was my first time reading Jessica Lemmon. I've been on a kick lately only wanting to delve into authors I've never read before. I have to say, this is another one I am so glad I picked up.
I was immediately taken by the uptight Reese and the down to earth Merina. And to me, when I heard his proposal, I felt like one of those old biddies yelling that's preposterous! how could he! But then, when we got further explanation as to WHY he needed it to happen, it kind of in a warped way, made sense. All of this, of course, was followed by ... oh yeah, let's see how this pans out *said with sarcasm*
I couldn't help but fall in love with these two as they ambled their way through the fake marriage like Bambi trying to walk for the first time. As time went on they just got stronger and stronger, and you fell more in love with them as a couple. She rounded his edges and opened him up. And he stood beside her and gave her the support and strength she needed. But you could tell, as much as Ms Lemmon was making us fall in love with these two, she was going to rip our hearts out somehow just as bad. I don't think she did it just once either. There were quite a few times where Reese pushed Merina in a way that made me, as a read, flinch just imagining how much that would really hurt to endure.
Now that Ms Lemmon has effectively broken our hearts. I was curious to see how she was going to get these two to work out. In my opinion, it was too easy for Reese to get back in Merina's good graces. He destroyed her , and yes himself in the process too. So to me, he really needed to make a grand gesture to win her back. Having his ex, who I already didn't like for reasons you will find in the book, point out he loved Merina, wasn't enough for me. Is that really what it took to make him see? I needed more. More than just words. More than that. His words and actions broke her, so I needed more than words to mend her broken heart.
I know I sounded like a pouting toddler there, didn't I? I want more! I can't help it. There was something with this story that just tugged on my heart strings when it came to her broken heart, and mine, and it just stuck with me. From the get go I knew I was not going to be able to stop until I saw how this panned out, and I was right. I am so glad I picked it up. I will definitely be reading more from Jessica Lemmon.
