You know the story. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, two kids, white picket fence. This isn’t that story.
This is more like . . . Man meets woman. Man sleeps with woman. Man meets another woman, sleeps with her. And so on. You get the idea.
I own a small boutique hotel in New Orleans, the Kingston. I’ve seen men do some stupid stuff in the name of the woman they love, or at least the woman they love for the night.
That’s not me. I’m always in control. You’d be surprised how much you can get away with on just good manners and a smile. It’s the only way to keep my secrets safely locked away.
And my smile hides a lot. Until her.
She turns me down flat. Playing hard to get is my favorite game. It’s the thrill of the chase.
Only problem is, I think it’s me that’s getting caught.

Excerpt:
Dr. Lorraine laughs and pulls out her prescription pad.  Scribbling something, she turns it to me.  The title reads: The sex diet.

I bust out laughing.  “You’re writing me a sex prescription.”

“Sort of,” she says.  “You ever gone on a diet before?”

“No.”

“The thing with diets is, you usually start off strict.”

“How did I know that?”

“No touching by either party, not even kissing.”

“Wait, not even a hand job?” I ask.

“You’ve got your own hands.  Use them.”

She writes jerking off on her script pad, then puts a checkmark beside it.  This is the craziest shit.

“Once a day as needed,” she says, writing that down.

“I’ll never make it.”

“How many times do you want?” she asks.

“At least twice, morning and before bed.”

She shakes her head.  “Okay, twice a day,” she says and points her pencil at me.  “That’s it.”

“I really don’t think I need . . .”

“You won’t be released from therapy until I’m satisfied you’ve completed this,” she says.

She has me by the balls, and she knows it.  I can’t believe I’m being forced to agree to this, but what choice do I have?  “I haven’t had sex in a couple days.  Can I get credit for that?”

“No,” she laughs out.  “Start fresh today.”

“Porn?”

“What about it?”

“Can I use it?” I ask.

“You don’t have enough memories to sustain you?” she asks.

“Good point.”

She gets to her feet and sticks out her hand.  “Good luck.”

Shaking her hand and smiling, I’m sure I’ve got this.

I bite the inside of my mouth, realizing the old lady has tricked me.  It’s Thursday.  I’m not seeing her again until Tuesday.

That’s five days!  Shit, what have I done?

*arc provided by the author for a voluntary, honest review*

I've never read anything by Prescott Lane. and honestly, it all started because she took time to find out my name. since something so little mattered to her, she took a chance emailing me, I wanted to do the same. you know me, on the kick of reading authors I've never read before. an author is going to take the time to mention my name, you bet I'm going to consider giving them a go . now I know you can't do that with everyone, there was just something about the author and the book that stuck to me. so... you wanna know what I thought ? here we go.

I'm going to roll this backward. I'm gonna start from the end but not drop any spoilers, so please don't ask for them. the last sentence. the ending. the voyage that Pierce took to get there. to be able to say that specific sentence, was hard. you get this feeling something bad happened throughout the story, but that. . you just KNOW it was hard for him to get to that point. to admit that. but the best part is, Prescott made sure you felt that pressure, that denial, that troubled guilt the whole time. she didn't just make you love Peirce the man whore, she made sure you loved each troubled piece she left bread crumbs for.

Annie is such a huge part of the story. in the beginning I was so sure she was the love interest . so sure something was going to happen. Instead she valiantly plays the rock Pierce needs his whole life. you just don't realize how much she's done for him until you see their history and he reads the letter.

Sutton. now there's the perfect woman to break a man whore, if we've ever met one . what better way to do that than to break him like a horse. I swear I was so sure at one point he'd go through withdrawal symptoms. but in his diet, we get to see so many different layers he didn't know he had. we also get to see this foundation being built between these two characters. one not built on sex, but really on their chemistry and who they were. you get to see Pierce grow, change, evolve. and in a strange way, he becomes stronger with Sutton by his side. accepting things, acknowledging things he never could before. letting things go, he never could before. ride or die . .

like I said earlier, I've never read Prescott before but I'm so glad I did. starting the story of Sutton and Pierce I was sucked it. there was just something about Pierce that captured my attention and he demanded it the whole time. I couldn't stop reading, well unless life reared its head. now here I am in the middle of the night thinking about this story. and for some reason it's got me sitting here thinking, what can I learn from this . I know, it's fiction, but still. I feel like this is a story that has an underlying meaning that will just hit me one day. maybe it's secrets. and how they fester and are never good. who knows. all I know is I'm so glad I got that email, because this is one of the best books I've read so far this year. such a complete story. no loopholes, no plot line holes, no issues with the characters or anything. it just really feels very complete.

this is a 4.5 star read for me! <3
