Melting the Ice is just plain old fun to read. Where this 7th book of the Play by Play series by Jaci Burton may have lacked a little from what I've come to love of this series it made up for in witty antics from the male protagonist and some really heartwarming moments.
Carolina had history with Drew and she just couldn't let it go. I get it. A man takes your virginity (although she did willingly and enthusiastically offer it up) and then walks away it's going to sting. Probably for a long, long time. And when he's the best friend of your brother which means your paths are going to cross more than normal it makes it that much harder.
Drew entertained me a lot! He knew he screwed up with Carolina and really had no excuse other than he was young, stupid and just starting out in a career that was promising him great things. Now, that he's finally settled into life he just can't seem to quit thinking about Carolina and wants to explore things more. I loved how he didn't make up any excuses. He laid it out there for Carolina and basically said this is what I did then. This is what I am now. Can we please move on?
I really appreciate how grown up Carolina was about everything. After having it laid out there she did move on and didn't continue to punish Drew for the sins of the past. Although, she did reserve her trust of forever and I totally got that. I admire her restraint in not making him pay for some of the crap he pulled in the present though. When the man basically stopped taking my calls and went from I can't get enough of you to meh, we'll chat when I have time I would've been a little less forgiving. He did come through in the end as every good contemporary romance hero should.
Bottom line: there were times where I didn't necessarily feel a connection between the characters. Or maybe it was Drew's lack of stick-with-it that got to me. But, I felt like the romance was missing a little something. That being said both characters were truly good people and a joy to read. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that loves Jaci Burton or a good sports romance.

She just didn’t count on her pathway into the club coming at the hands of one gorgeously scarred and bad ass bouncer who manages to easily possess her body and soul.
While Cain’s not looking for anyone to catch his eye, Sloane did it all the same, and he’s not bemoaning the fact that she’s as wickedly kinky as he is. As both get caught up in the sinful fantasies that only The Wicked Horse can create, secrets and loyalties will be tested and hearts will risk being broken.
**Warning: this book has sex in it. Lots of sex. Dirty sex. The Wicked Horse Series is a bit different than what Sawyer Bennett normally writes. While you’ll still enjoy fabulous characters, a suspenseful story, some witty banter and an epic romance, there’s just… a lot of sex. You’ve been warned.

Wicked Lust, the second book of the The Wicked Horse series by Sawyer Bennett, was a love hate read for me. I loved the characters, the romance, the heat. I just have such an issue with a relationship that progresses based on a lie. At least our female protagonist felt a ton of guilt over it, but it still makes me crazy.
That being said this story has a ton to offer. Cain Bonham, head of security and one of the fantasy makers at an exclusive ultra secretive sex club is a hot as sin sexy character that has so much more to offer than his body. He's smart, responsible, and really seems to like women. I feel like someone working in this field, along with his once bitten, twice shy past, could become very jaded and not like women so much, but not the case with Cain.
Sloane is likeable enough, but I still go back to the secrets that she's holding onto. Ms. Bennett does a great job at making the reader feel the guilt that Sloane has, so there's that. I am sure this is more of an issue for me than it will be for most readers. This particular trope is always an issue for me. I just happen to enjoy this series and Ms. Bennett's writing enough to not want to skip this story. And I'm glad I didn't.
Bottom Line: If you are looking for a plot that will leave you squirming (in a good way) and a male protagonist that makes you sigh this story will fit the bill perfectly.
