book blurb

I watch.
I study.
I prowl.
I hunt.

I always go in with a plan. A set of rules for myself. I don’t take unnecessary risks. That’s how I’ve been able to evade capture all these years.

But there’s something about this girl that is different than the others. When I finally meet her, the rules become a blur. And I break the most important one of all—I take her with me.

——-

It’s just my imagination—that feeling of being watched. That those icy eyes— a vivid turquoise with a distinct golden fleck—aren’t watching me.

It’s just stress. I am the person everyone relies on. Maybe that’s why I haven’t been feeling so content with my life lately. Why I dream those eyes belong to someone who can tear me away from all of my responsibilities.

But these are just shameful fantasies, never meant to breach reality.

Then one night, the dream comes true, only it’s a horrific nightmare.

Now, I only have one task: survival.

Nina should be titled the queen of fucked up fairytales. She takes your characters and makes them so depraved and yet you find yourself loving them. You KNOW you shouldn't love them and the things they do are crazy and as many times as you tell yourself you can't or won't love it, you're screwed. And you do.

I think Nina sits back and thinks of some of the worst things that a person can be put through. Then finds ways to make that same character lovable. Redeemable almost. No, lovable. Okay, likable.

I don't know how Nina does it but I fell in love with Sam and Vesper. I knew Vesper was the one we could relate to but I couldn't help finding myself really really liking Sam.

As with typical Nina writing, it's a vortex. You get sucked in and there's no getting out. You are just captivated, addicted. And this book didn't fail to deliver either. I knew i shouldn't like Sam, but damn if I didn't feel like I need a bucket of ice or some very alone time. What have you done to me Nina?
