Johanna Walker is used to taking charge. But she’s about to meet someone who will make her lose control...
It has always been up to Johanna to care for her family, particularly her younger brother, Cole. With an absent father and a useless mother, she’s been making decisions based on what’s best for Cole for as long as she can remember. She even determines what men to date by how much they can provide for her brother and her, not on whatever sparks may—or may not—fly.
But with Cameron MacCabe, the attraction is undeniable. The sexy new bartender at work gives her butterflies every time she looks at him. And for once, Jo is tempted to put her needs first. Cam is just as obsessed with getting to know Jo, but her walls are too solid to let him get close enough to even try.
Then Cam moves into the flat below Jo’s, and their blistering connection becomes impossible to ignore. Especially since Cam is determined to uncover all of Jo’s secrets... even if it means taking apart her defenses piece by piece.
Well, let's talk about opposites attract.. or how about unexpected character twists. At first when we learn about Cole, you jump to conclusions.. hello, Cam. But then when the truth comes out, it's a surprise character twist that is a little unexpected. When the reality of Jo's home life comes out, it's even more unexpected. Even more surprised. And here is this girl that you think may just be a gold digger, you find out she's much more deeper than expected.
When it comes to Cam, immediately you could tell things were going to be rocky with these two. I mean he is a flat out asshole for the first few times they run into one another. Hello First Impressions and Jumping to Conclusions. Boy does she surprise him. And on the contrary, I think he surprised her as well. Threw her totally off balance, which is completely what she needed. She needed those nudges in the right directions. The eye opening sweetness and support. The lovely whispers to offset the insulting self doubt. God. Once Cam opens up , you can't help but fall in love with him.
The narration on this novel was hands down incredible. The narrators, the accents- American and Scottish, I believe there was even a British in there- was fabulous. Though I believe the narrator was Scottish. Either way, since that is where the story took place, it made it so much more realistic. It really brings the story to life and adds that touch of reality. Both the male and female narrators were spectacular. They kept me completely invested in the story through the whole thing. Though that could have also been the amazing storyline and writing style of Samantha Young.
I give this audio 4-4.5 stars
