❤❤ 3.5 star review of MASTERED by Maya Banks ❤❤

Dee's rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Breathless Trilogy comes the first novel in the Enforcers series—a bold new direction in erotic romance that explores the games men and women play, and the price they’re willing to pay for pleasure.

What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

okay. wait, what? I'm legit frustrated right now. not because of a cliffhanger, though I hate those, but the storyline. Maya is better than this. way better. let me explain.

I struggled through the first 15% , legit struggled. I actually started skimming. it was way too wordy. Evangeline would start self reflecting, self evaluating, or just start over thinking in her head and just go off on tangents. This would just drag on.. . and on... I started to lose focus.

Finally we have a bit of drama at the club. At this point we know she's got no self esteem, worth, confidence, and her back bone is hidden somewhere. We can deal with that though. She's still super normal- a regular woman like the rest of us. Drama happens and boom instant-attraction. Again, fine. But the moving, taking over her life. And she's okay with it . . . so quickly? Um...ok. I'll give in on this one.  moving on. This is where I felt things got a little repetitive. Her self esteem - we get it, she has none. It didn't need to be brought up every chapter. He's taking care of all aspects of her life- ok, again, we get it. now.... the sex. I think some of the scenarios were a little over used. And that was my frustration, the crux of the problem for me.... The stuff that was important, was like beating a dead horse.  I know what you're thinking...

Now it picks up from 20-60%, then we get wordy again. Then we go back to perfect flow. Back to wordy. Back to perfect. and that's another cause for my frustration. the whole thing didn't flow smoothly. It was just so back and forth between too wordy and perfect.

I have to admit, I love when she would cook, and how she befriended the men. How he built her up. But that end ... really!?!?! He really said that and did that??? aaaaaannndddd were back to square one in her head ....sigh.

I know it sounds like I totally hated this book. And  I didn't, I did really like it. I was just left really frustrated. I know Maya Banks can deliver better than that. This could have been a 5 star book. She had a great plotline and is an amazing author. Just the delivery was a little off. My last catch was the next book doesn't come out until May. That's just ...tooo far away.

This was a 3.5 star review. I'm excited to see what happens next, but just hope that we don't bounce back and forth between too wordy and perfect again.
