TWO YEARS
Since my life changed for the second time and not necessarily for the better. Two years since I traded prison bars for streets and hunted a runaway who I’d met in an alley.
TWO DAYS
Since I forgot how to lie, woke to fists, and chased after the girl who’d been stolen from me.
TWO HOURS
To save her, rescue her, keep my lies intact. She looks at me full of hate. I look at her full of confession.
TWO MINUTES
For our relationship to switch from mutual dislike to floundering with unknowns. I’ve hurt her. Now, she’s hurt me. I guess we’re even.
TWO SECONDS
For her to listen, to see, to finally know who I am. The answer comes with hardship. The answer isn’t what she wants to hear.
TWO BREATHS
For me to walk out the door.
TWO HEARTBEATS
For it all to be over.

*arc received for an honest review*

Oh ToT... What do I have to say about you? I feel like I'm not too sure . I've been sitting thinking, remembering, reminiscing, and I'm still stuck with how to explain my reaction to this.

Did I love it? yes
Did I get irritated with Penn? Yes
Was I surprised and kind of proud of Elle? Yeah, yeah I was. But then, I was also kind of confused maybe? Or maybe I just didn't know how to react to her following through with the agreement at the end. I felt like that wasn't something she should have done, regardless if she liked to keep her reward. In essence, she rewarded her abuser, and honestly, I don't know how I feel about that.
Was I disappointed in Steve and her Dad? Yeah, yeah I was.
Was I disgusted with that rat bastard Greg? yep, sure was.
Did I love Larry and Fleur? Sure did.

I loved the way Pepper revealed the truth of who Penn was. How she made Elle see the truth. But I also kind of related to Elle when it came to that. The whole time you have an idea of who Penn is, but the way that Pepper wrote Crown of Lies, you doubt yourself the whole time. So the way she unveiled the truth, I kind of loved it. It was like she lifted the shroud from our eyes, then slapped us upside our heads for not believing what we always knew.

You want to know what I hands down absolutely adored? letters. Handwritten letters. I love that.

I feel like I should warn you with this one. This book. You thought CoL was hot? You ain't seen nothin' yet ladies. Be prepared. Penn brings the heat with this book. He tries to hold back, but Elle shows him he doesn't need to and the beast is unleashed. He's hot and dominant and possessive and .... holy crap I think I drooled on myself while reading this book.

I still don't quite understand the Stewie thing. I had to read and re-read that, and I still don't think I quite grasp it. but it there is a high probability that my brain is fried from all the hotness that is Penn and Elle together. . against a wall.. in a bed... in a shower.. oh god, pretty much anywhere he could get his hands on her. and thank god, did he. whew!

I think this really was a fabulous conclusion to the duet. I may not have liked all aspects of the story, but I think that's why I liked it. It didn't follow the norm. Pepper still threw in some twists and turns. Our strong dominant man became the weaker character of the two, and our Elle, who should be the submissive character becomes the dominant one. She's the one who's strong when he's weak. She's the one who refuses to bend, who refuses to give up, when Penn isn't sure. She's the one who opens his eyes. She's the one who all the sudden isn't the little naive girl anymore. She's this strong woman who knows what she wants and she is fighting tooth and nail to make sure she gets it. And I think Pepper delivered two great characters in that aspect.

I gave this 4.5 stars
